Assen, Netherlands — At Saturday’s qualifying session for the Dutch TT, Maverick Viñales completed the fastest lap ever set at the Cathederal of Speed. Clocking in at 1:31:841, with Monster Energy Yamaha teammate, Fabio Quartararo, coming in just behind. The previous motorcycle circuit race lap record was set by Valentino Rossi in 2015 at 1:32.627.

El Diablo, Quartararo, himself, finished first place at in the Dutch TT on Sunday, placing him at #1 in the MotoGP world standings, in the same race that also saw Rossi fail to finish.

In breaking news just this morning, Viñales has stated he is set to put an early end to Yamaha’s current two-year contract in 2022. No word yet on his plans after Yamaha Racing.

It all goes to show: something big usually follows after Assen!
